BALLROOM KINGS
The BALLROOM KINGS were just formed early in 2009, but soon they established as one of the best acts among the european bands who play authenticly the sound of great rock’n’roll artists of the 50’s as Jimmy Cavello and Freddy Bell.
The BALLROOM KINGS are very experienced musicians, and some of them have been playing rock’n’roll/swing for over 20 years now!
Massimo Rocca, frontman and lead singer of the BALLROOM KINGS, used to sing with the internationally famous Silver Trio;
Luca Ciriacono (double bass) and Giovanni Ziino (whose drumming is so much inspired by Sun Records’ hero Jimmy Van Eaton) are both veterans of the rock’n’roll scene in Sicily.
Vincenzo Puleo, leader and piano player of the band, was even the founder, back in 2005, of another sicilian jive combo which performed internationally as at the Rhythm Riot, Camber Sands (UK, 2006) and at Warner Bros Film Festival, Locarno (CH, 2007).
The rhythm section of the band is completed by the extraordinarily elegant, but sometimes rough guitar of Marco Gioe’.
The brass section is formed of three musicians who have played together jazz and swing for many years: Carmelo Sacco (tenor sax), Michele Mazzola (alto sax), Alfonso Vella (baritone sax).
Sharing the laed voice with Massimo Rocca is the “Ballroom Queen” Ylenia Mannisi: her rough voice and confident stage personality remind artists as Barbara Pitmann and Wanda Jackson.
The sound of the BALLROOM KINGS is a perfect blend of rhythm’n’blues, boogie and rock’n’roll: in other words, it’s pure dance music, ballroom music, and the final aim of their show is to invove the crowd in the show and to make it part of the show!
The first show of the BALLROOM KINGS, at the Metropolitan Theatre in Palermo, Sicily, back in April 2009, was a sold out event.
